If you’re pregnant, you’ll want to share the news with us. That way, we can help connect you to the care and services you need. So you and your baby can be as healthy as you can be.
Call Member Services at 1-855-221-5656 (TTY: 711), as soon as you can. We can help you:
- Choose a PCP or OB/GYN for your pregnancy (prenatal) care
- Get into special programs for pregnant members, like childbirth classes
- Get healthy food through the Women Infants and Children (WIC) program
If you’re not sure you’re pregnant, make an appointment with your provider for a pregnancy test.
Give your baby the best start
After your baby is born, call KanCare (Medicaid) at 1-800-792-4884. Your baby will get an ID number for eligible benefits as soon as possible. This helps ensure they’ll get all the care they need.

PROMISE Program
The PROMISE Program is all about getting you and your baby the care you need. It’s a benefit you can enjoy before and after your baby is born. Why take part? You’ll get support through your pregnancy and as a new mother. And the program offers rewards, too.
Get rewards for care
After you’ve let us know that you’re expecting, a care manager will enroll you in the PROMISE Program. Then you can earn gift card rewards for reaching certain healthy goals. You can use your gift cards to buy maternity supplies at certain stores. These supplies include things like a stroller, portable crib, car seat, diapers and more.
The goals and rewards you can earn include:
- $75 gift card for a first pre-natal visit within the first trimester or within 42 days of plan enrollment.
- $75 gift card by completing a postpartum visit within 84 days of delivery.
- $10 gift card for dental check-up during your pregnancy.
Once you’re enrolled in the PROMISE Program, you’ll get a form in the mail from us. Just bring this form to your provider appointments to track your visits.

Get your no-cost breast pump
Your provider can help you get a no-cost breast pump. You don’t need pre-approval (prior authorization) — simply ask your provider how to get yours.
Benefits of a breast pump
If you’re breastfeeding, you’ll want to empty your breasts regularly by feeding or using a breast pump. This prevents your breasts from becoming full and painful. Many women find it helpful to use a breast pump.
You can pump breast milk when it works for you. Then your baby can get the best nutrition, no matter what your schedule. A breast pump also gives other family members the chance to feed and bond with your baby.
To get help with breastfeeding, you can call the National Breastfeeding Helpline at 1‑800‑994‑9662 (TDD: 1‑888‑220‑5446).

Our care managers are here to help you stay healthy through your pregnancy. Working with one of our care managers is especially helpful if you have a high-risk pregnancy. Your care manager can help you get the extra care you need. You’ll get support, including info about preterm labor and birth.
What is preterm labor?
Preterm (early) labor is labor that starts before 37 weeks of pregnancy. It can cause an earlier birth, which may lead to health problems that can affect the baby.
Any pregnant woman can have preterm labor. It may start for no reason, but you’re at a higher risk if you:
- Are carrying more than one baby (twins, triplets or more)
- Had preterm labor or an early birth in the past
- Use drugs or alcohol while pregnant
- Smoke or use other forms of nicotine while pregnant
- Have bleeding during pregnancy
A care manager can help you:
- Learn more about your pregnancy
- Make a care plan that’s right for you
- Get services and care
- Work with health care providers, agencies and groups

WIC is a national nutrition program that aims to protect the health of women, infants and children. You can find WIC programs in:
- County health departments
- Hospitals and clinics
- Community centers

- Other places in your area
The Kansas WIC program provides these services at no cost:
- Help with breastfeeding questions
- Referrals to agencies
- Healthy food, like fruits and vegetables
- Healthy eating tips

Baby Talk
Baby Talk
Baby Talk is a no-cost program for prenatal education. It includes six 2-hour classes. Labor and delivery nurses, as well as other health care professionals, teach these classes. You can attend virtually or in person, based on where you live. These groups worked together to bring you Baby Talk:
