But some types of care need prior authorization, or approval, before you get them. And check this page regularly, as info may change. We update it for you every day.

    Your primary care provider (PCP)

    Have you been getting health care services at a clinic? Do you want to keep going there? If yes, choose one of the doctors as your PCP. Just be sure they’re in our provider directory.

    You can choose any of these types of providers as your PCP:

    • Family doctors and general practitioners (GPs)
    • Pediatricians (for kids) And OB/GYNs (for women)
    • Advanced nurse practitioners (ANPs)
    • Federally qualified health clinics (FQHCs) and rural health clinicals (RHCs)

    All members of STAR Kids must have a PCP. If you don’t choose one, we’ll assign you a PCP. You can change your provider at any time by phone or through the Member portal. This doesn’t apply to dual-eligible members who have both Medicaid and Medicare – having a PCP assigned is optional..

    Do you want to see how well a provider has done to keep people healthy and happy? The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Report Cards measure the performance of providers across the country. They look at things like accreditation, recognition, certification and distinction.
