    Don’t lose your health benefits

    You must renew your NJ FamilyCare (Medicaid) benefits every year. Watch for a renewal notice in the mail. NJ FamilyCare will send the notice. It may be a preprinted form or a blank application. 

    What you may need to renew coverage

    What you may need to renew coverage

    When you renew, you may need to include these things with your application:
      

    • Names and birthdays of all members in your house
    • Social Security numbers of all members in your house
    • Other health insurance you may have

     

    When your renewal is processed you may need to provide additional information:

     

    • Your most recent pay stub with your gross wages or a letter from your employer on company letterhead with your gross wages
    • Proof of any other form of income (self-employment, rental, alimony etc.)
    • Proof of citizenship or immigration status

    Renewing is easy to do

    You can choose from a few ways to renew:

    By mail

    Send your completed renewal form back before your stated due date. The address will be on your renewal notice.

    In person

    You can get help with the renewal process in person. Just choose your county for a list of local agencies that can help you renew.

    Not sure when your renewal date is? Or didn’t get your renewal form? No problem. Just call your NJ FamilyCare county office.

    What to know if you’re an immigrant

    • To be eligible for enrollment, adults must have documents that allow them to live permanently in the United States. Pregnant women must be lawfully present in the country.

    • Applying for coverage won’t hurt your chances of getting a Green Card or becoming a citizen.

    • NJ FamilyCare doesn’t share any info you provide.

    • If you’re not asking for NJ FamilyCare health coverage, you don’t need to provide your immigration status.

    • A parent’s immigration status does not affect if a child will qualify for benefits.

    Switch to Aetna Better Health

    If you’re already enrolled in NJ FamilyCare, you can switch your health plan. You can join Aetna Better Health of New Jersey if you live in the state. Need to learn more about how to change your plan or managed care organization? Just call us at 1-855-232-3596 (TTY: 711).     If you do not meet the income requirements necessary to receive NJ FamilyCare, you may be eligible for quality, affordable health coverage through Get Covered New Jersey, the State’s Official Health Insurance Marketplace. Nine in 10 enrollees receive financial help for comprehensive health coverage.

     

    You must complete your enrollment at Get Covered New Jersey within 60 days of losing coverage to avoid a gap in coverage.

    • Employer health plans: If you’re employed, you can ask your employer if they offer them for their employees. If they do, be sure to also ask for a breakdown of costs, so you can see if you can afford the coverage.
