ILOS are not covered by the State Medicaid Plan, but we have decided to cover these services to make sure you get the behavioral health care you need. ILOS are available for members ages twenty-one and older.
ILOS includes Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) for members with a mental health and/or substance use disorder and who meet medical necessity for these services. Medical necessity means that the service meets the behavioral health care needs of the member.
PHP and IOP are programs that offer treatment for members who are ready for discharge from a behavioral health hospital stay or who are in the community and need more intense behavioral health care treatment then what is provided in a doctors or therapists office. Treatment includes group therapy and educational groups that teach members about behavioral health and healthy coping skills. These services can be offered through a hospital or through a community clinic or provider. Members get this treatment during the day, and don’t stay overnight.
If you have questions about ILOS or how you qualify for these services, call Aetna Better Health of Texas by using the phone number on the back of your ID card. A Service Coordinator will answer questions you have about ILOS and can assist in referring you to a behavioral health provider for an assessment.
